Programs/Professional Development
Junior Achievement - On May 8, 2008, volunteers from the National Black MBA Association-St. Louis chapter, along with individuals from other companies, participated in the Wellston School District's JA-in-a-Day program. JA, or Junior Achievement, is a non-profit organization that provides professionals from various sectors of the business community to serve as volunteers at a number of schools. Following a strict curriculum, the volunteers teach business and life skills to students. This year, the NBMBAA-St. Louis chapter worked exclusively with the Wellston School District and their Bishop Middle and Central Elementary schools.
An all day event, 18 volunteers reported to class and taught their respective lesson plans to each classroom. Many first-time volunteers left feeling very rewarded and had expressed pleasure in not only the volunteer effort, but the impact that they left on their students. If you are interested in teaching, please contact Terrence Duncan or Scharad Hutchins at volunteer@stlbmbaa.org or 636-230-2404.
